Often in the past when I have introduced myself as a quality manager, the conversation eventually drifts to 'what exactly does a quality manager do?'. Well, to save you having to ask (and to save having to spoil the next party conversation), why not visit this page on an introduction to quality.
Quite simple, a quality management system is a management system that assists an organisation to meet its quality goals or objectives. That's the simple definition - see the quality management systems page for more detail.
A key issue in quality management is how to ensure your organisation achieves maximum effectiveness and the best achievable results. The solution is to look for opportunities for improvement throughout the whole organisation. This has resulted in recognised collections of business improvement tools including business process improvement (BPI), Lean and Six Sigma systems, process re-engineering and business excellence approaches. I have a special interest in how these can be applied to areas of information systems and cybersecurity.
